VictimA portrays the voices of five women victims spanning several decades of terrorist acts in Spain. The film seeks to explore how these acts have impacted the lives of the women and how they became agents of change. The documentary was launched on 26 May 2021, on the occasion of a virtual Dialogue with Human Rights and Civil Society Partners on “Building a Better Paradigm to Prevent and Counter Terrorism,” jointly organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) and the Permanent Mission of Spain to the United Nations.阅读全文 »
"Resilience in the Face of Terrorism: Victims’ Voices from Cameroon and Nigeria" explores the resilience of a refugee from Nigeria who fled to Cameroon and an internally displaced person from Cameroon as a result of attacks by Boko Haram. This is part of the Lake Chad documentary series. When Boko Haram came for her family, Wala Matari dressed her sons as girls, hoping to stop them being recruited by the terrorist group. Wala, from northern Cameroon, is just one of millions of people who have been displaced in the Lake Chad Basin area.阅读全文 »
From June 2012 to January 2013, the northern Malian city of Gao was ruled by the Mouvement pour l’unicité et le jihad en Afrique de l’Ouest (MUJAO). Aliou Mahamar Touré, the chief of the Islamic Police during this time, was convicted of attacks on the state, assault and criminal conspiracy, and sentenced to 10 years in prison. On the morning of 22 March 2016, three coordinated suicide bombings occurred in Belgium, two at the Brussels Airport in Zaventem, and one at the Maalbeek metro station in central Brussels. Philippe’s sister, Fabienne, died during the attack at the airport. Previously an employee at the airport, Philippe co-founded and is the Director of Victims-Europe, Belgium, an international non-profit organization that seeks to defend the rights of victims of terrorism in Belgium.阅读全文 »
Drissa Traoré is the National Coordinator of the Malian Association for Human Rights (AMDH). Based in Bamako, Mr. Traoré focuses on documenting and monitoring human rights abuses, including violations linked to terrorism, undertakes fact-finding missions and provides legal assistance to victims of terrorism. On 11 July 2010, Hassan Ndugwa was watching the FIFA World Cup final at the Kyadondo Rugby Club. Hassan survived the attack, which claimed 74 lives and injured 75 people. Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen, more commonly known as Al-Shabaab, claimed responsibility for the attacks, which also included an attack against a restaurant in Kampala. On 28 December 2017, a suicide bomber attacked both a Shia Hazara cultural centre and a national media outlet, the Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) in Kabul, Afghanistan. On 19 September 1989, UTA flight 772 exploded over the Sahara Desert in southern Niger killing all 170 people on board. Guillaume’s father was on board this flight. In 2009, he founded and is currently the Executive Director of the Association Française des Victimes du Terrorisme (the French Association of Victims of Terrorism) that supports victims in healing, recognition and remembrance.
